How to conquer your Stage FEAR?

QUICK TIPS & TRICKS #3

How to conquer your F.E.A.R?

It is a general human tendency to Fear. Most of the times during a first hand experience we face the situation, we give our best shot, it goes beyond our abilities, if we succeed then good, but if we fail it starts building a sense of fear within ourself. Once that is built, every time we face it, we fear out completely. How do we overcome / conquer our fear? With my experience, I have written down 5 steps that will help you conquer any fear.

  1. Understand your Fear and Embrace it - Fear is not inherently bad or good but a tool we can use to make better decisions. Embrace fear as an instruction and let it inform your actions, but not control them. The more you let it control you, the more you will fear. Once you start understanding it, gradually you will reduce that fear. If you are having the fear of public speaking then you must visit www.ganeshdatta.in and buy the book “Talk without F.E.A.R”.

  2. Name the fear - Say your fear out loud, write it down, and focus your mind on it. When you face your fear, it shrinks! The more bold you are in understanding and facing your fear, the better you will get at destroying it. Remember, fear means Fight Everything and Rise. If you have the fear to speak on stage, DM me, I will guide you on how you can overcome it.

  3. Educate yourself - If your fear is based on a lack of information, then get the information or knowledge you need to examine the situation based on facts rather than speculation. Take for an instance, why do we fear exams? It is simply because we aren’t sure if we have the right information studied to give our best shot (back benchers can relate to this). Or think about a situation while attending an interview, you fear because you aren’t sure what kind of questions are going to be asked. The best solution is to educate yourself as much as possible. If you have the fear of speaking to an audience then you can always learn, experiment, evaluate, and perform the exercises from the book “Talk without F.E.A.R”

  4. Prepare, Practice, Preview, and Perform - I present to you the 4P’s of getting over FEAR. It’s very simple, if your fear is related to your performance in a certain activity then prepare well, practice as many number of times possible, preview by asking someone or by recording your act and perform it with confidence on your platform. This helps you to remember, rather than memorize, as well as it will assist you to get into that character that you need for your performance. If you aren’t sure how this goes with public speaking, then you must try the formulas and steps written in the book “Talk without F.E.A.R”, it will help you understand a proven methodology to overcome the fear of public speaking.

  5. Visualize your success - Try to visualize the success in your mind. The result that you wish to see after giving your full fledged attempt without fear. This mental mapping ensures that when the body moves, it’s more likely to follow its pre-ordained path. So do not ever feel bad if you are visualizing the result. It always gives you a ray of hope, however, a piece of advice, do not overdo it, it might disturb you and the chances are that the fear tends to get stronger. Read through the book “Talk without FEAR” to understand how effective some formulas are which will not only help you in overcoming your fear but also help you in visualizing your success as a public speaker.
